Virtually any cladding or panel can be used in conjunction with Knight’s CI, HCI or MFI rain screen attachment systems. Typically if the cladding product has the ability or approval to be attached over Z-girts and/or hat channels, it can be installed over Knight’s HCI™, CI®, MFI® or ThermaZee rain screen attachment systems. Knight does not supply any panels – only the engineered solution to attach panels and still meet energy code.
All of Knight’s attachment systems can be spaced up to 32” O.C. (every other stud) and support claddings that weigh over 20 PSF (note: maximum allowable spacing and dead load are functions of total load on wall anchor and/or brackets at a given spacing, calculated by KWS on a project specific basis).
Primary reasons why owners, designers and contractors choose to use Knight’s rain screen attachment systems:
Efficient: Each rain screen system meets the energy code with the smallest amount of exterior insulation in the industry. Each system installs as fast, and in some typical cases even faster, than typical continuous furring strips.
Versatile: Knight’s rain screen systems can accommodate a wide range of panels, allowing a multi-product façade to be installed on one attachment system for simpler detailing, installation and consistency.
Engineered and Tested: Each of our rain screen systems and components has undergone in-house R&D testing, third party standardized testing as well as engineering analysis to limit the liability on all parties involved. This ensures the owner is getting a system that has been proven to perform on all levels and will last compared the risk of a one-off system with no history and physical testing.
Ventilated Façade: Knight’s rain screen attachment systems consist of perforated rails, allowing air to flow freely to speed up residual water evaporation and reduce heat gain in warm climates. This will improve the life expectancy of any cladding by reducing long term water absorption, possible freeze-thaw problems and potential expansion/contraction issues. A properly detailed rain screen system will also greatly reduce the chances of water infiltration into your wall assembly where it does not belong.
Cost Effective: When comparing Knight’s complete rain screen systems and the value added, it becomes clear comparable systems are more expensive. Fair comparison equates to the cost of engineering, stainless steel wall anchors, stainless steel fasteners for the overall assembly, the girts and/or rails, brackets (for the MFI™ System) and plastic thermal isolation that is proven to actually work. Once this cost is added up, one will clearly see the benefits of Knight!
